Message If you price the Private Party value of that car on Edmunds (assuming excellent condition, 60K miles, T-tops, etc.), it comes out to about $6,200 if here in California. Probably up or down from that a couple of hundred depending on the geography.

Kelly Blue Book is about $9500 (if in California) for a Private Party price on that car.

As a buyer, you want to go by Edmunds...:-) I'd show him the Edmund's valuation on that car - might help to lower the price.

Bottom line is - according to Kelly Blue Book, its a fair deal, but not a good deal. And its a bad deal according to Edmunds.

Offer Edmund's price, if he counters with KBB, offer to split the diff. Know what your options are for other 300ZXs in your area, so you know when to walk and keep looking. (use Autotrader - and search for all 300ZXs in your area.)

Its a buyers market for cars out there right now. Very few buyers with money, and people selling cars are getting very little action. Frankly, I think both Edmunds and KBB are high considering the current market conditions.

(I just bought a georgeous '93 300ZX NA two weeks ago here in N. California by splitting the Edmunds-KBB Private Party value. And that was with a dealer/broker, not an actual Private Party!)
